I mentioned in my last post that I am a bit obsessive compulsive about keeping stuff clean, so it is kind of funny that this happened to me this week. I have a Dell Latitude D620 that has been getting, very, very hot on the bottom for the last month or so. It actually gets so hot that I can’t even put the thing on my lap. I have actually been putting a book on my lap, and then putting the laptop on top of the book.
I finally called Dell last Saturday and explained my issue, and they were very quick to tell me that they were going to send me a replacement laptop. I remember seeing the video of the battery starting on fire, so I guess they are pretty concerned about things starting on fire. They led me to believe that they would send me a new laptop as a replacement, so I was pretty excited about that. It is Dell’s policy to send a replacement that is “like or better”, but I still thought they were sending me a new laptop.
Anyway, the laptop was waiting for me at work last Friday, and it didn’t take long for me to realize that it wasn’t a new computer. In fact, after about 5 seconds, I starting seeing how dirty the laptop was. There were food particles in the keyboard, there was sticky stuff on the side of the laptop just above the DVD drive, and when I turned the laptop over, I found dried jelly or candy or something. I wasn’t going to taste it see exactly what it was.
Anyway – long story short – I called and complained, and they are finally going to send me a new laptop as a replacement. Pretty disgusting that something like that would make it past any kind of inspection – or maybe there was no inspection, and they were trying to pawn something off on to me.
